K-pop News
On November 12 (KST), NewJeans members Haerin and Hyein announced that they would return to ADOR after discussions with their families and the company, and ADOR confirmed their decision. Later the same day, Minji, Hanni and Danielle released a separate statement through a law firm saying they had also decided to return, explaining that one member had been in Antarctica, which delayed communication, and that they issued the statement because they had not yet received a response from ADOR. Their announcement came about three hours after Haerin and Hyein's official statement, and ADOR said it was "still confirming the three members' true intentions."
On the latest Billboard Hot 100 update, LE SSERAFIM's single "SPAGHETTI (feat. j-hope)" charted for a second consecutive week, following its debut at No. 59 and landing at No. 89 in its second week. This makes LE SSERAFIM one of only three K-pop girl groups this year — alongside BLACKPINK and TWICE — to remain on the Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks.
KATSEYE also saw continued momentum, with "Gabriela" rising four spots to No. 33 on the Hot 100. Five months after release, the track has climbed for four consecutive weeks, supported by gains in both radio play and streaming. Their EP "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS" also moved upward on the Billboard 200, marking its 19th consecutive week on the chart.
On November 8, the Hanteo Music Festival revealed part of H.O.T.'s setlist, confirming the group's return with classic hits such as "Candy" and "Warrior's Descendants." The members reportedly curated the setlist together, aiming to deliver a concert-level performance as they reunite after several years.
H.O.T., widely recognized as the first-generation idol group that marked the rise of large entertainment agencies and the modern K-pop idol system, expressed excitement about performing again, noting that they have not held a concert since 2019 due to the pandemic. The festival will take place at Inspire Arena in Incheon, with H.O.T. headlining both November 22 and 23 alongside artists including Teen Top, fromis_9, tripleS, 2AM, Solar of MAMAMOO, and Oh My Girl.
Discoveries
The title track "X" from Close Your Eyes' third mini album blackout is an R&B dance track built around a theme of acceleration. Its key highlight is the climax, where soaring high notes and low vocal lines intersect. The lyric "Like 458" was inspired by the Ferrari 458 to evoke that sense of speed, and Kenshin, who contributed to the choreography, added a sensual tone with a post-chorus killing point that emphasizes the members' back silhouettes.
Tonight's Music
Released on November 11, 2024, ENHYPEN's "No Doubt" is a sensual synth-pop track known for its iconic walking-style choreography and back-pocket performance, now surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.
Late Night Thoughts
As MAMA season approaches and voting once again divides artists by gender, I can't help but wonder — why are we still evaluating musicians this way?
